Better:Health is our outreach programme, where Better:Gen comes to you! The Better:Health programme is at the core of Better:Gen, and it aims are quite simple. We want to address and prevent the reduction of independence through the promotion of health, wellness and exercise. The programme is aimed at those who cannot attend our Better:Centre, however, would greatly benefit from the group activities.
The Better:Gen programme looks to build strength and endurance and promote movement commonly used in activities of daily living. We can deliver 30-40 minute wellness sessions focusing on strength, balance and flexibility. The sessions are done with background music to motivate the group, and there’s a big emphasis on group fun and participation. It is the perfect introduction to the Better:Gen ethos of A Better Life for Generations.
The programme is already being delivered in care homes, sheltered housing and day care centres in Tayside and Angus to a large number of members.
“I visit Jenny (my sister) regularly at the home, I try to get to the exercises every week with her. When she first moved in all she spoke about was Bob and Lynn and she has problems remembering! Both of us love it, we love the music and last time I was standing boxing with Lynn. It gives me and my sister something to talk about, laugh about and look forward to”
